Faculty Gala

The Department of Music is pleased to announce its Annual Faculty Gala will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tullibody Music Building Recital Hall.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Music Faculty Activites, Summer 2008

Faculty members in the Department of Music were busy during Summer 2008. Some of their activities include:

Dr. Caterina Bristol - performance at International Double Reed Society Conference; attended SACSCOC Annual Conference on Quality Enhancement

Dr. Doug Bristol - performance of Fantasy for Euphonium and Orchestra at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference Grand Finale concert; publication of Fantasy for Euphonium and Piano by Cimarron Music Press; completed arrangement of the 1st movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor for trombone quartet; performance of Three Profiles for Wood and Metal at the International Double Reed Society; accepted commission from Atlanta-based band, The League of Decency; is working on commission for Trombone and Timpani.

Dr. Pamela Burns - lecture-recital at the National Association of Negro Musicians annual conference

Dr. Gregory Jackson - company member in the pit orchestra for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's production of West Side Story

Dr. Carly Johnson - company member in the pit orchestra for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's production of West Side Story; soloist with the Capitol Sounds Community Band

Dr. Joel Jones - company member in the pit orchestra for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's production of West Side Story

Dr. Kara Washington -developer and clinician for church music workshop

Music Faculty Member Earns Doctorate

Gregory Jackson, Assistant Professor of Percussion, completed the requirements for and was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in August 2008. Appointed in 2007-2008, Dr. Jackson teaches applied percussion. Congratulations Dr. Jackson on this achievement.

New Music Faculty

The Department of Music would like to announce the appointment of Dr. Walter Bragg. He holds degrees from Alabama State University, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and the University of Alabama. Dr. Bragg will teach applied piano, music fundamentals, and keyboard. Welcome Dr. Bragg!

Music Faculty Member Retires

The Department of Music would like to announce the retirement of Dr. David Bowman, Associate Professor of Organ and Music History. Dr. Bowman retired August 1, 2008 after over 30 years of dedicated service to Alabama State University. We join with everyone at ASU to congratulate Dr. Bowman on his retirement.
